Dump Truck Operator

SRM Dump Truck Operators are responsible for transporting dirt, aggregate, and other materials and/or equipment to various job site locations. Will also work in the yard area to stockpile and move materials as needed. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates truck in safe and professional manner on public highways, roads, on the yard, and at various job sites to deliver materials. (Trucks driven include but are not limited to: belly dumps, dump truck and semi-tractor truck with attached trailers.)
  • Performs daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
  • Attaches and removes pup trailers, belly dump & side dump trailers, transfer trailers and tilt/transport trailers to truck as needed.
  • Keeps accurate log of deliveries and completes required paperwork.
  • Load and unload equipment or materials.
  • Maintain daily vehicle mileage logs.
  • Unrolls truck tarp to cover loads when required.
  • Assure product quality to the best of the Driver’s ability.
  • Properly follow all company policies and procedures for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Report any problems to the Foreperson, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
  • Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions.
  • Equipment and truck cleanliness is expected.
  • Attendance at assigned times is expected.
  • Adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). (Preferred)
  • Two years of related tractor/trailer driving experience. (Preferred, but not required)
  • Current and maintained Commercial Driver's License Class B or higher.
  • Special awareness and prioritized safety measures. 
  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Good driving record. (MVR Requested)
  • Submit for a criminal background check.
  • Clear Federal Drug/Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Pass a DOT drug screen. (pre-screen)
  • Current DOT Medical Card.
  • No felony convictions within the past ten years.
  • No unexplained gaps in employment.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Team mentality -- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to outdoor elements and heavy operating equipment.
  • Safety equipment and weather appropriate attire is expected.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but is typically moderate.
  • May require sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Monday – Saturday schedule. (with one scheduled weekend off per month)
  • Shifts will be flexible. (morning, mid-day, and night)
  • Overtime is expected.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly. 
  • Able to walk/climb up and down ladders/stairs regularly.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on the trucks (greasing and cleaning).
